The effects of poverty and low-adult literacy cause a negative ripple effect throughout all society. Vulnerable adults and their families struggle to just negotiate the basic necessities for life's survival such as water, food, clothing, heating in the winter season, etc.

These issues cause the basic supports for a healthy society to crumble, break apart, and swallow the hopes and dreams of those adults and families in vulnerable and impoverished communities. These issues significantly compromise and stall economic development and healthy lifestyles.

The more affluent communities still experience the negative ripples through increased taxes, increased health care-related costs, area crime rates, and other issues.
